COPD is characterized by high production of mucus and coughing constantly loose. Effective lung treatments include using handheld inhalers prescribed inhalers, nebulizers and other equipment with forced air. As the lung disease progresses, oxygen can be used to assist the patient active. There is no cure for these lung diseases, current lung treatments can allow patients to continue an active lifestyle rather than a number of years.
Pulmonary fibrosis(Here if IPF is "idiopathic" or has no known cause) does not produce mucus, and is not helped by inhalant to clear blocked airways. Many patients experience a dry cough that becomes extremely debilitating. However, the prednisone lung treatment is successful in a lower percentage of patients than previously thought, and its side effects are so harmful to the body that many health workers feel prednisone is no longer the preferred choice of lung treatment. Drug tests were conducted for many years to find a more effective
for IPF, including pirfenidone, which is currently awaiting FDA approval after a series of favorable evidence. At present, however, there are no known drugs that successfully treat IPF, and the only cure available is lung treatment transplantation. lung disease progression is usually faster than with COPD.
